About Alpha House
June 11, 2026It is with heavy hearts that we announce that, after 34 years of serving the Taft community, Alpha House, “A Place of New Beginnings,” and the Alpha House Thrift Store will be permanently closing their doors effective immediately. This decision was incredibly difficult and was not made lightly. Due to ongoing financial challenges and the continued rise in operating costs, we are no longer able to continue serving the community in the way we have for so many years. We are deeply grateful for the love, generosity, and unwavering support the City of Taft and the Kern community has shown us throughout this journey. Because of you, Alpha House has been able to provide hope, support, and new beginnings for many women whose lives have been touched by this mission.
